<P>You forgot to allocate memory to hBrush. When doing the CreateSolidBrush() call, hBrush is still not initialized. This is, where your program shuts down, most probably accessing memory (due to the uninitalized pointer) that does not belong to the program.
<P>Add
<P>hBrush = new CBrush();
<P>before creating the brush and 
<P>delete hBrush;
<P>when you're done with it.
<P>Another approach is to use a variable instead of a pointer:
<P>CBrush hBrush;
<P>hBrush.CreateBrush(...);
<BR>dc.SelectObject(&amp;hBrush);
<BR>...
