<P>static in c means a varaible or function is of file-scope, while in c++ means it is class-scope. Here are some examples
<P>/* in .c file */

<BR>                    /* memory allocated at compile time */
<P>static int func(int)/* func is of file scope */                
<P>// in .cpp file
