<P>Hi! I mean a book on C++, not Visual C++ - on the pure language. I can't reccomend since I've learned it on the road .. but question like yours are about the bases of C++, not VC specific .. in a matter they are not reals problems, so I think it could be helpful to read something about the language itself. Take it with philosopy, I have no meaning to be offensive or so .. everybody had this kind of troubles too before. I can't suggest book even because I'm italian .. the book over a language are usually universitary books, often written by our teachers .. I have no idea of how you can buy the same books we have here.
<P>However, we can do this things without reading books :) ..
<BR>Now, about deriving class: a class can have more than one &quot;parent&quot; class, I mean that CMyDialog : public CDialog can easily (but manually .. not with classwizard) be made in CMyDialog : public CDialog, public CMyOtherClass - thus obtaining access to all class vars &amp; funcs of CMyOtherClass. So if CMyOtherClass has a function named VerifyStr(), now you can use it from inside CMyDialog. All you have to do is add &quot;, public CMyOtherClass&quot; in the cmydialog header file.
<P>About static funcs, it's better to not made static the default funcs a cdialog had (maybe it's safe .. I don't know). You can make new static functions using classview, right click, add new functions and selecting the &quot;static&quot; checkbox.
<BR>A static func is something very like a global function; they are used, for example, to &quot;auto&quot; create an object (ex. CDC * pDC = CDC::FromHandle(..)).
<BR>You can use them, for example to do this (defined as static)
<BR>CMyClass * CMyClass::CreateMySelf()
<BR>{
<BR>  return new CMyClass;
<BR>}
<P>and call it as:
<BR>CMyClass * pm = CMyClass::CreateMySelf();
<P>You can also create a class with all static functions and put there all your global (or normal) functions, to manage them all from a single point. If you put vars in a class which uses static functions, you can access them from the class static funcs only if they are static too (a static means they always exist, while normally a vars is allocated only when you got an instance of the class; a static vars exists from when the program is loaded until it is destroyed).
