<p>Best used in conjunction with doing all the Analysis first, then the Design, then the Coding. Also fits well with strategies with lots of work <a href="http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?ThrownOverTheWall">ThrownOverTheWall</a>.
<p>Where possible, <a href="BigBangTesting.html">BigBangTesting</a> should be left very late in the project, and should be done manually, without use of expensive and hard-to-build <a href="http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?TestingTools">TestingTools</a>. Have real humans sit down with the system and test it. That's the best way to find out how good it really is.
<p>For best results, do no other testing beforehand. To do so will just dilute the benefit of <a href="BigBangTesting.html">BigBangTesting</a>. Besides, no one likes bad news.
<p>In this situation, a period of time marked "testing" on the project plan
is in reality the slack time. It's never intended for real testing, because
if you test at the very end, you cannot possibly have the time to fix or change
the broken pieces.

<p>Typical argument:
"We have to test the system once, at the end, in one big test, because if we test intermediate versions, we'll have to run the same tests over and over again (manually), and that will be very time consuming and expensive."
<p>Hidden assumptions:
<UL><li> We can't use automated regression testing tools: That would require investment and planning.
<li> We intend to not find any bugs when testing. <em>(...which is the opposite of the actual goal of good testing! ;-)</em> If testers thought they'd find bugs, then they'd see the value of automated regression testing tools.
<p></UL><em>(I find this argument most ironic when I hear it from large, politically influential QA groups. When they say it, I can hear them shouting at the top of their lungs <strong>"WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO OUR OWN JOBS!!!"</strong> -- <a href="http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?JeffGrigg">JeffGrigg</a>)</em>
