Intercom 是一个 Unix系统上灵活的语音传输软件。支持标准音频压缩比如GSM, G.711, and G.72x和其他音频编码。Intercom专为高速网络设计来传输高品质的语音

Introduction:

Intercom is a simple voice over IP (VOIP) utility.  It supports various
audio codecs and sample rates enabling the user to choose between high
quality audio or lower speed data transfers.  Intercom is a console utility
with a command-line interface.

Why Intercom:

The primary reason I wrote Intercom was because though the VOIP solutions
available were quite flexible and useful, most if not all only supported 8k
audio conversations.  Though this is adequate for lower speed connections, a
high-speed connection can usually do much better and the quality improvement
is quite substantial.

Installation:

If you are not familiar with installing a GNU utility, please read through
the INSTALL file located in this directory.  If you are familiar with the
standard procedure, the following steps should get you up and running.

$ ./configure
$ make
$ su
# make install

Or, if you do not wish to install system-wide, you can install Intercom into
your home direction with the following set of commands.

$ ./configure --prefix=$HOME
$ make
$ make install

Note that their are several options which can be given to configure which
you should know about.  A `./configure --help' will list these options.

Supported platforms:

Intercom was developed on a Debian Linux system using Glibc 2.2 and kernel
2.4.x.  I have tried to keep it portable and it should run on any Unix-like
system provided that it supports the OSS audio interface.  If it doesn't
work for you, I would be happy to attempt to resolve it.

Intercom does not presently run on Windows systems, primarily because of the
radically different audio interface.  Windows is something I'd like to
support though so if you are familiar with Windows sound programming and are
willing to help, please contact me.

It will have a link to the latest version of the code.

For those who wish to participate in the development or testing of Intercom,
you may wish to use the CVS repository.  To do so, use the following
sequence of commands.

$ cvs -d :pserver:[e-mail]/var/cvs login
   The password used should be "anoncvs".
$ cvs -d :pserver:[e-mail]/var/cvs co intercom

Documentation:

Unfortunately, at present, there is no documentation available.  However,
Intercom is relatively straight-forward and shouldn't be hard to learn.  The
`help' command typed at the Intercom command-prompt will list all available
commands.  typing `help <command>' (`help call'` for example), will give you
help for that command.

An Intercom manual is currently in development.

Mailing lists:

There are currently two mailing lists available for Intercom. 
[e-mail] is an unmoderated discussion list for topics relating
to the project.  The [e-mail] list is a moderated
announcement list.  If you would like to keep up to date on the latest going
on, you are welcome to subscribe.
