The default folder can be a single folder (the sameone each time you save) or it can change depending upon thecontents of the message's headers. One of your choices is to pickthe folder name based on a matching pattern in the message'sheaders. The<B>Save Patterns ...</B> option lets you define the patternsand their associated folder names.<P>See<A HREF="1j.-uyBk2I9X3cS.html">Application-related Preferences</A> for information about howthe default folder is determined.<P>You specify a string pattern and a folder name. When you save amail message to the default folder (and the<CODE>Default save folder: bypattern</CODE> option in the<B>Application Preferences</B> window is enabled) theheaders are scanned for a match with the patterns. When amatch is detected the message is saved into the associated folder.See<A HREF="1j.-uyBk2I9X3cS.html#NKI1QLB-zWwA0YK">Default save folder</A> for information about specifying defaultfolder names.<P>To add or insert new save patterns, and to modify or deleteexisting save patterns, click the<CODE>Sa</CODE><U>v</U><CODE>e patterns ...</CODE> option. (If nosave patterns have been defined, both fields are empty.)<P>The pattern is evaluated as a<I>regular expression</I>, as defined bythe UNIX<B>ed</B> command.<P>You use the four buttons to the left of the text fields to:<UL><LI>Create a new save pattern.<P></LI><LI>Insert a save pattern.<P></LI><LI>Edit an existing save pattern.<P></LI><LI>Delete an existing save pattern.<P></LI></UL><P>When you click the<B>New ..., Insert ...</B>, or<B>Edit ...</B> buttons, the<CODE>Edit SavePattern</CODE> window appears. The<B>Edit Save Pattern</B> windowappears.<P></LI><LI>Place the pointer in the<B>Pattern</B>: text field and enter astring pattern that would appear in the header field of anincoming message.<P></LI><LI>Place the pointer in the<B>Folder name:</B> text field and enterthe name of the folder that should be used when thestring pattern is encountered in a message header.<P><P><HR><B>NOTE:</B><BR>Folder names can be fully qualified pathnames or relative path names. Relative pathnames are resolved starting from your<I>$HOME</I> directory. Relative path namesstarting with a<I>+</I> or an<I>=</I> are resolved startingfrom your<CODE>Folder Directory</CODE> (see<A HREF="1j.-uyBk2I9X3cS.html">Application-related Preferences</A>), which istypically<I>$HOME/Mail</I>.<HR></P></LI><LI>Click<B>Ok</B> or<B>Apply</B> in the<B>Edit Save Pattern</B> dialog window.<P></LI></OL><H3><A NAME="Heb3vyBctI9X3cS">Inserting a Save Pattern</H3><P>Highlight an existing save pattern and click<B>Insert</B> to begininserting a new save pattern.<CITE>Ishmail</CITE> displays the<B>Edit Save Pattern</B>window. Then:<OL><LI>Make your changes in the<B>Pattern:</B> and<B>File name:</B> fields.<P></LI><LI>Click<B>Apply</B> or<B>OK</B> in the<B>Edit Save Pattern</B> window to applyyour changes to the selected save pattern.<P></LI></OL><H3><A NAME="Seb3vyBctI9X3cS">Deleting a Save Pattern</H3><P>Highlight a save pattern and click<B>Delete</B> to remove it from the<B>Save Pattern List</B>.<CITE>Ishmail</CITE> asks you to confirm your action before itdeletes the save pattern.<P><HR><B>TIP:</B><BR>You can remove more than one save pattern ata time by highlighting multiple icons.<HR></P><H3><A NAME="Veb3vyBctI9X3cS">Applying Your Changes</H3><P>Apply or cancel your changes using the row of buttons across thebottom of the window.
