<HTML><HEAD> <TITLE>Include/Attach Option</TITLE></HEAD><BODY bgcolor="#ffffff"><H1><A NAME="bqbqgMBPQJ9X3cS">Include/Attach Option</H1><P>The<U>I</U><B>nclude/Attach</B> -> option enables you to include an external filein the message you are currently composing. This is one of themost powerful features of the MIME specification. The data inthe external file can be of any type. It will be marked withidentifying information such that the recipient's mail tool canpresent the data appropriately. For example, if you include anaudio clip and the recipient reads the message with aMIME-capable mail tool, the audio clip will be played throughthe system's speakers.<P>There are several options available when adding data from anexternal file to your message:<UL><LI>You can expand the contents of the file in-line in yourmessage, at the point where the cursor is positioned.<P><P><HR><B>NOTE:</B><BR>This is intended for files containing ASCIItext. It's not very useful to expand non-ASCIIdata in-line, but you can if you want.<HR></P></LI><LI>You can add the file to your message as an icon, which isinserted into the text at the point where the cursor islocated. The icon will flow with the text as new text istyped.<P><P><HR><B>NOTE:</B><BR>Different icons are used to represent differentdata types. You can also edit the label on theicon to describe the contents of the file.<A HREF="FaEI2.BsKL9X3cS.html#zqPXKNB0FN9X3cS">IconsRepresenting Included Files</A>shows examplesoficons that represent included GIF, JPEG,binary, PostScript, MPEG, and U-LAW audiofiles in a Composition window.<HR></P></LI><LI>You can specify that the file is to be included as part ofthe message, or attached to the message with a pointer.Attaching a file with a pointer is useful for mailingmessages containing large external files, so you don'tneed to worry about overflowing the recipient's mailspool directory with a huge mail message.<P></LI><LI>You can specify the data type of the file being included.<CITE>Ishmail</CITE> makes a guess about the data type, based on filename suffix. You can override the guessed type, as well asextend the list of possible data types.<P></LI></UL><H2><A NAME="awPXKNB0FN9X3cS">Include File Menu Sequence</H2><P>When you click the<U>I</U><B>nclude/Attach</B> -> option, a cascading menuappears from which you select the inclusion or attachment thatyou want to include in your message. When you select this optionthe<B>Include/Attach File</B> dialog is opened.<P><DT><U>M</U><B>essage ...</B><DD>This is a special case option of including a message fromthe current folder. When you select this option the<B>IncludeMessage</B> dialog is opened. You will be prompted for thenumber of the message you want to include.<P><P><HR><B>TIP:</B><BR>You may find it more convenient to click on amessage in the<B>Folder Contents</B> area, drag it intothe Composition window, and drop it whereyou want. See<A HREF="GnbqgMBPQJ9X3cS.html#gDB1CfBrBM9X3cS">Using Drag-and-Drop</A>.<HR></P><DT><U>S</U><B>ignature</B> -><DD>This is a special case option for including your signaturefile into the message. When you select this optionanother cascading menu appears, which lets you selectfrom among possible signature files.<P><P><HR><B>TIP:</B><BR>This option lets you include your signatureanywhere in the message.
