海风吹拂的仁川，住着一个实在不起眼的男子。他叫李江才，说是混黑社会，可也不过是三流混子，就连那些比他出道很晚的小辈们也不叫他大哥，而是直呼其名。相隔太白山脉，东海海岸的一个小村庄，有一个中国女子在酷寒中光着脚洗被子。她叫白兰，为投靠亲戚来到韩国的她，却落得无依无靠，在洗衣店帮忙。
白兰为了在韩国合法居住，花钱和从未谋面的韩国男子结婚。白兰非常感谢那个陌生的男子娶了她。《白兰》讲述这对男女相隔一座山脉各自不同的命运，由《生死谍恋》中的崔岷植和《星愿》的香港明星张柏芝主演。

如果说《8月的照相馆》描绘出由于一人的死而未能完成的哀惋的爱情，《白兰》讲述的是从一人的死开始的爱情。
不过，令人惋惜的是，从总体来看，电影的强弱调整没有规则，防碍观众进入角色。这部电影是根据《铁道院》的作家浅田次郎的小说《情书》改编的。
