The view of information flow within the computer is a dynamic view, contrasted with the static view of the computer presented in target indicator 1.1.1. In describing a working computer, a more dynamic view -- not just hardware components, but communicating hardware components -- can bring the computer to life.</p> <p>Second, the emphasis on information flow brings up questions of processes (booting, transferring information from CPU to and from memory and to and from interfaces) and protocols governing those processes. It helps to understand networking by thinking of the computer as a miniature network. All the various devices within the system unit communicate with each other like nodes in a network.
