The 
.PN biod
daemon starts the specified number of asynchronous block I/O daemons.
The
.I ndaemons
argument tells
.PN biod
how many asynchronous block I/O daemons to start.
The 
.PN biod
daemon is only useful to NFS clients.  This command is used by NFS
clients to perform read-ahead and write-behind of remote file system
blocks.  Like the 
.MS nfsd 8nfs 
daemon,
.PN biod
is normally invoked at boot time via the
.PN /etc/rc.local
file.
