.B qfax
.SH DESCRIPTION
.B qfax
accepts electronic mail piped to it from
.B smail
or
.B sendmail
and
converts it into a Group III fax, complete with cover page, then
queues it up to be sent later.

E-mail is parsed into three distinct sections:

.B 1. Standard mail headers

Standard headers (e.g. "To:", "From:", "Subject:", etc.) are
parsed to gather information for the cover page.  This information
does not appear in the body of the fax.

.B 2. Cover page comments

The first line of the body of the e-mail message is checked to see
whether it happens to be the "fax comment start" marker, as defined
in the
.B fax.rc
file.  If it is, all text on lines between it and the "fax comment
end" marker will be displayed on the cover page in the comments
section; otherwise it is assumed that there are no cover page
comments, and therefore the body of the mail message is treated as
the body of the fax.

.B 3. The body of the fax message

Everything following the "fax comment end" marker (if
present) will be copied verbatim into the fax message.  This
includes signatures, if your mail program appends them.

.B qfax
uses configuration data from your
.B fax.rc
file to determine how to format the cover page.  Recipient
information is looked up first in the sender's home directory
in a phonebook called
.B .fax
and then in the master directory
.B fax.db
if the recipient couldn't be found.  If the recipient could not
be found in either phonebook, the sender is notified by mail.

.SH "FAX ADDRESSES"
To use the email to fax gateway, users must address their email to:

.B <PersonAlias>@<CompanyAlias>.fax

e.g. "[e-mail]".  The aliases are used for lookup in the
phonebooks, and are replaced with the full names on the cover page
of the fax (see
.B qfax.phonebook(1)
for more details).
