.SS Introduction

Linuxfono is a small program (with a XForms interface) that allows you to
use your modem as a speakerphone, provided that it has voice support.
You can plug a microphone and a speaker to the modem and talk.

.SS Usage

Linuxfono works either in the X-Window system or in text mode (if you use
the
.B -t
switch or use the
.B Txt
entry in the rc file.

The program's usage under X is quite simple. The top left button  (ON) activates or
deactivates Linuxfono. When the program is activated the modem device
--probably /dev/ttySx, x=0,1...-- is locked and you can't/shouldn't use
other programs that need the modem. If you want to run a program that needs
the modem and don't want to close Linuxfono, you can press the ON button to
switch it off.

When Linuxfono is active, you can press the 'Pick Up' button to get a dial
tone --or to answer an incoming call--. Once picked up a number can be
dialed or a favourite line can be double-clicked (right panel). During the
conversation, the output volume and the microphone sensitivity can be
changed (sliders 'vol' and 'mic').

In text mode you have a keys menu which is self-explanatory.

.SS Configuration

Linuxfono configuration is done through a text file which contains values
for some variables. Linuxfono will look for this file in the following
places (in order):

\(bu    The file ponted by the environment variable \fBLFONORC\fP.

\(bu    \fB~/.lfonorc\fP.

\(bu    \fB/etc/lfonorc\fP.

\(bu    \fB/usr/local/etc/lfonorc\fP.

If it doesn't find any of these files, it will work with default values. I
don't advise that.

In the rc file a option-value pair can be given in each line. Lines starting
with ';' are comments. The options currently understood are:

initial output volume. Integer between 0 and 255.

initial microphone sensitivity. Integer betwween 0 and 255

modem's device name (for example: ttyS0, ttyS1...).

serial port speed (not modem speed). Possible values are 19200, 38400,
57600, 115200 and 230400.

adds an entry to the favourites list. The entry consists of three values,
separated by '|': nickname, name and phone.

specifies the icon file to be used when linuxfono is minimized.

makes Linuxfono start always in text mode.

Configuration files. The first one found will be used. The specification
through environment variable has precedence, thoug.

Modem write errors stop the program and show the offending command.
