If you like to install due to the Linux filesystem standard, use <EM>perl install.pl -lfs</EM>, to remove Newtonlink use <EM>perl install.pl -rmlfs</EM>. <LI>Create a link to your serial device connecting the Newton. <UL> <LI><EM>ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/newton</EM> for using COM1 under Linux on a PC. <LI><EM>ln -s /dev/cua/a /dev/newton</EM> for using COM1 under Solaris on a Sun workstation. <LI><EM>ln -s /dev/ttyd2 /dev/newton</EM> under IRIX on a SGI workstation. </UL> <LI>Install the TimeDate Perl-Lib (included in the Newtonlink distribution). <LI>Make sure that <EM>newtonlink</EM> is in your path. <LI>Start Sloup on your Newton with the correct baudrate. <LI>Start Newtonlink with <EM>newtonlink <param> &</EM> <LI><P><STRONG>Important :</STRONG> <BR>During the first use of Newtonlink it will create a user specific config file <EM>~/.newtonlink/newtonlink.config</EM> in your home directory. Then you have to edit this file and to change the entrys in the user editable section if neccessary.<BR>When you upgrade from an older version, your user specific config file will be replaced ! </P></UL><HR><H1>How to install and use Newtonlink under OS/2 ?</H1><UL> <LI>Copy the tar.gz-file to the directory where you would newtonlink to reside on your system. <LI>Expand the tar.gz-file <LI>Install Newtonlink with <EM>perl install_os2.pl</EM>. <LI>Install the TimeDate Perl-Lib (included in the Newtonlink distribution). <LI>Start Sloup on your Newton with the correct baudrate. <LI>Switch to the directory where newtonlink is installed and start Newtonlink with <I>perl </I><EM>newtonlink <param> &</EM> <LI><STRONG>Important :</STRONG><BR> Cause OS/2 isn't an UNIX you don't need an user specific config file. On OS/2-Systems, there is just one config file, located in the installation directory of newtonlink. It's called <I>newtonlink.config</I>. <LI><B>Tip :</B> <BR>To create a Newtonlink object on the desktop, copy the OS/2 windowed session object.
