A paper that I presented on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) won the second prize at the symposium conducted by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department of the SRM University. Other topics on which I presented papers were Performance enhancement of wireless sensor networks using directional antennas, Smart card application and wireless communication. Also my research idea titled “Wavelet Based Image Compression Using SPIHT Algorithm “secured third prize in a technical festival.

Abstract: As industrial control systems (ICSs) have become increasingly connected and use more off-the-shelfcomponents, new vulnerabilities to cyber attacks have emerged. This tutorial looks at three types of ICSs:programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, anddistributed control systems (DCSs), and then discusses security issues and remedies. This document alsoexplains the benefits and limitations of two cryptographic solutions (digital signatures and encryption) andelaborates on the reasons for using security ICs in an ICS to support cryptography.

The SP2526A device is a dual +3.0V to +5.5V USB Supervisory Power Control Switch ideal for self-powered and bus-powered Universal Serial Bus (USB) applications. Each switch has low on-resistance (110mΩ typical) and can supply 500mA minimum. The fault currents are limited to 1.0A typical and the flag output pin for each switch is available to indicate fault conditions to the USB controller. The thermal shutdown feature will prevent damage to the device when subjected to excessive current loads. The undervoltage lockout feature will ensure that the device will remain off unless there is a valid input voltage present.
